The Mountain Events team together with the owners of Hayterdale Trails and some dedicated volunteers, are hard at work tweaking and improving the National Cross Country and Downhill tracks ahead of the SA Champs, scheduled to take place on 20 & 21 July.
This year will see the level of competition step up several notches from last year 's SA Cup event as riders will be competing for the exclusive one-off title of SA Champ.
The Hayterdale SA Champs takes place a month before the UCI World Champs and Masters World Champs that are taking place in KZN, so it will be an excellent opportunity for riders to test their level of preparation ahead of the World Champs.
A few enhancements to the courses that riders can look forward to this year:
The XCO Course is similar to last year's SA XCO Cup course but will feature a few exciting new additions, including a new technical switchback climb and the "Rabbit Hole" - an over and under crossing near the Start / Finish area.
The XCO course is 5,5km in length with approximately 190m of elevation gain/loss
Nippers and Sprogs will ride a shorter (but no less exciting) version of the course.
The DHI Course has been extended by 500m, bringing the overall distance up to 1.77km with a vertical drop of 240m.
Expected winning times will be around 3:30 minutes. The new Finish is in close proximity to the XCO Start / Finish area, making the DHI a lot more spectator-friendly. The course will feature a few tweaks and new additions from last year.
