The Urban MTB is a new addition to the Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run.

The 12km route has some challenging sections where even the best mountain bikers will get off and walk.
We estimate about 95% of the route is easily ride-able by anyone.
4% is pretty gnarly where only experienced mountain bikers will dare to ride, and the remaining 1% will require everyone to carry or push their bikes over some of the obstacles. This is a fun event

The emphasis is on having fun and exploring the inner city. Some of the top riders will certainly see it as a challenge to ride as many obstacles as possible as fast as they can, but the majority will be out to enjoy it.

Although there will be marshals out on the route, the roads are open to traffic and riders are responsible for their own road safety.

Recommended spectator points are:

  • Fort Frederick. Here you can watch as the cyclists take on "The Wall". You also have a good vantage point from which to follow the race as riders make their way around the route. This year the route direction is reversed with Fort Frederick being towards the end of the race.
  • Tramways building and St Mary's Cemetery.
  • MBDA (old tramways building)
  • The Train Station in Strand Street
  • St Mary's cemetery and the church ruins opposite the MBDA offices.
